Great photos are only possible with great preparation

Exterior of the Home

  • Remove the car from the driveway.
  • Mow the lawn and remove weeds from the garden.
  • Remove moss and green algae from the tiles/paving.
  • Sweep the terraces and paths, as well as the sidewalk.
  • Remove debris from the roof.
  • Hide the trash cans out of sight.
  • Add some planters or flowers if possible.
  • Check the paintwork on the front door and window frames.

General Interior

  1. Ensure the floor in every room is clean.
  2. Open all curtains.
  3. Close all doors and windows.
  4. Clean all windows and mirrors.
  5. Ensure rooms are not overcrowded with furniture.
  6. Remove playpens, child seats, and toy boxes.
  7. Hide pet beds and food bowls (dog/cat) out of sight.
  8. Empty trash cans and remove any ashtrays.
  9. Put away personal items.
  10. Try to create a cozy, tidy atmosphere.

Hallway / Entrance

  1. Ensure a clutter-free entrance.
  2. Put away coats as much as possible (a few coats in neutral colors are okay).
  3. Store shoes in a closet.
  4. Clean the doormat.

Living Room

  1. Remove loose and unnecessary items while maintaining the atmosphere.
  2. Think of magazines, remote controls, mail, etc.
  3. If applicable, place new candles in holders.
  4. Put fresh flowers in a vase.
  5. Tidy up books and magazines.
  6. Turn the TV off.

Kitchen

  1. Ensure the kitchen is streak-free, clean, and tidy.
  2. Remove hand towels, dishcloths, and tea towels.
  3. Clear off the countertops.
  4. A clean coffee machine in the shot is no problem. 

Bedrooms

  1. Change the bed linens and make the beds as neatly as possible.
  2. Use neutral bedding or a bedspread.
  3. Put away clothes and close (wardrobe) doors.
  4. Tidy up toys and store them out of sight. 

Bathroom / Toilet

  1. Clean the toilet and close the lid.
  2. Preferably no extra stock of toilet paper in sight.
  3. The toilet roll should be neatly “rolled up.”
  4. Remove any limescale around the fixtures.
  5. Ensure the grout between the tiles is clean.
  6. Put away personal care products.
  7. Preferably no hanging towels, or choose neutral colors.
  8. Place a small plant on a shelf or windowsill.

Final Check shortly before the appointment…

  1. Walk through your home as if you were a potential buyer.
  2. Is everything clean and tidy?
  3. Optionally light candles and/or the fireplace.
  4. Ensure there are no dogs or cats in the house.
  5. Move the car off the driveway.
  6. Is the interior photo-ready?
  7. Ensure that nothing else needs to be moved!
